Five materials. That's the whole list.

Most roofs in southeast Wisconsin are asphalt. We will install asphalt when it is the right call for your home and budget. But if a roof is worth doing, it is usually worth doing in something that lasts longer than the loan on the house.

Vermont Slate

The longest-lived residential roof in North America. Quarried in Vermont and split by hand. Installed properly, a slate roof outlives the people who first put it up.

Cedar Shake

Hand-split western red cedar, with the deep shadow lines that no asphalt shingle has ever managed to fake. Patinates from honey to silver over the first decade.

Painted steel or zinc, formed onsite in continuous panels. The architectural metal of choice for modern Wisconsin lake homes and any roof pitch shallower than slate likes.

Architectural laminate from CertainTeed, GAF, or Owens Corning. Not the three-tab from the big box. Done well, an honest 40-year roof for a quarter of the cost of slate.

Our Process · 02

Four steps. We do them in order.

01

Inspection

We walk the roof. Take photographs. Note what is failing, what is holding, and what is about to. You receive a written report with the photos within five business days, whether you hire us or not.

Proposal

Itemized, in writing, with three material options sized to your home. No high-pressure visit. No discount that disappears if you do not sign tonight. The price on page one is the price on the final invoice.

03

Installation

Our crew, not a subcontractor. Same faces from teardown to copper flashing to the cleanup of the last nail in your gutter. We work in winter when the weather allows it, and we never leave a roof open overnight.

Lifetime

We inspect every roof we install at year one, year five, and year ten, at no charge. After that, every two years if you want it. Most of the homes on our books still call us when a branch comes down.

The Family · 04

My grandfather started this company in 1962. My father ran it after him. Now my brothers and I work side by side with our crew.

We have been the family roofer for some homes on the North Shore for more than thirty years. We know which slate quarry to call when a tile breaks and where the original copper flashing was bent on the chimney. We answer the phone ourselves. And when we say we will be there on Tuesday, we are there on Tuesday.
